It’s always great to see airlines add, rather than discontinue, routes. Yesterday, Southwest rolled their schedule out through October 1st, and during that schedule extension, they added a few new routes.

As you can see above, Southwest is introducing a few new routes:

  • Nashville to Atlanta, 5 daily starting August 7th
  • St. Louis to Hartford, 1 daily starting August 7th
  • Kansas City to Raleigh/Durham, 1 daily starting April 8th
  • Los Angeles to Tampa, 1 daily starting August 7th
  • Cincinnati to Denver, 1 daily starting August 7th
  • Cincinnati to Phoenix, 1 daily through March

What’s interesting about these routes is that outside Nashville-Atlanta, most of the routes are longer, and seem to overfly the larger Southwest stations (Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, and Las Vegas).

What didn’t we see in this announcement? Two big route developments are still light on the details. First, we still don’t know what Southwest’s Hawaii plans are. We can assume West Coast destinations to major Hawaiian airports, but that’s a pretty wide array of route possibilities. Additionally, Southwest announced their intent to serve Paine Field outside of Seattle (Seattle North, if you will), but again, no firm plans have been revealed.

Finally, Southwest is having a sale currently and you can get these new routes for cheap; here’s Nashville-Atlanta in September:
