I originally wrote this back in August, but I am reposting this deal as it expires on Wednesday (September 14th).  If you didn’t see about this Starwood transfer bonus or saw it, meant to do it and forgot about it, you have a few days left!

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) points are one of the more valuable hotel points currencies out there. In addition to being probably THE cheapest for low-level award stays (as low as 2000 points / night!), they also allow you to transfer points to many airlines. The transfer is 1:1, but if you transfer in groups of 20,000 SPG points, you get an additional 20% bonus, so 20,000 SPG points turns into 25,000 airline miles.

Right now through September 14th, American Airlines is offering an ADDITIONAL 20% bonus, where 20,000 SPG points will turn into 30,000 American Airlines miles, making a 50% increase on your SPG points.  I’d say American is probably not the BEST SPG transfer, especially after their recent devaluation, but if you have a need to fly American, 50% is a pretty good increase.

To qualify for this AAdvantage® bonus mile offer, member must initiate the AAdvantage® mileage conversions with the Starwood Preferred Guest®program between 12:00 a.m. Central time August 1, 2016 and 11:59 p.m. Central time September 14, 2016 (the “Promotion Period”), and be in good standing in the AAdvantage® program. Members can convert multiple times during the Promotion Period.

To earn the 20% conversion bonus, member must convert points from the Starwood Preferred Guest program. This offer is non-transferable and non-reversible.

Bonus miles will be posted by American Airlines to the qualifying AAdvantage® member’s account within 7 business days after the initial conversion activity has been posted by Starwood Preferred Guest. Bonus miles earned in this promotion do not count toward elite status qualification.

Note too that there was the same SPG -> AA transfer bonus last summer, so it seems to be a fairly periodic thing.
