In our recent trip to California, we ended up flying into Sacramento and spending a few days there visiting family (including a Jelly Belly factory tour and doing an Urban Adventure Quest race).  Then we drove into San Francisco for a day and a half before flying back to Ohio.

In San Francisco, we stayed at the Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport (read reviews at TripAdvisorInvalid request error occurred.Invalid request error occurred. or check prices at HotelsCombined.comInvalid request error occurred.)

Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport rooms

My Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport review starts with a look at the rooms at this hotel.  My sister came with us, so we ended up getting a look at both types of rooms.  She and her family were in a standard 1 bedroom suite, while we were upgraded to what the hotel calls a “Trio”, which has a main room, full kitchen and then 2 bedrooms (each with their own bath).  Here’s a look at the main room, with the kitchen in the background

Here is one of the bedrooms

One nice thing I liked about the 2 BR suite in the Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport is that one of the bedrooms was a king and one of them had 2 doubles.  That makes things much nicer for our family, meaning only 1 person has to sleep on the floor 🙂

Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport amenities

The Staybridge Suites hotel has the typical features of an extended-stay hotel, including pay laundry, a fitness center, a basketball court, and an outdoor pool.  The hotel is set up with a set of buildings all surrounding a courtyard where most of the outdoor amenities are located.  We didn’t get a chance to use either the pool or the fitness center, but they looked nice (the pool claims to be newly renovated)

Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport problems

As always, I do like to report on any problems I had during my stay, and if/how they were resolved.

  • I could not figure out how to print things from the business center.  I am not sure if that was a printer problem, or a “me” problem.  When I went to print out our boarding passes the morning of our departure, all that printed out was 1 blank piece of paper (instead of 8 boarding passes)
  • The big problem though was that Sunday night, my nephew got really sick and threw up in our room (right during the San Francisco miles and points meetup).  When we went down to the front desk to get some cleaning supplies, Carolyn was told that because Housekeeping was gone, there were no real cleaning supplies available and all they had were some towels.  Contrast that to our stay at the Hyatt Place in Louisville, where the manager literally cleaned vomit out of our car himself!

Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport food

This San Francisco Airport hotel has a free hot breakfast

It only had 2 hot items (eggs and sausage) but did have a waffle maker and the pop machine was on for breakfast if Diet Coke in the morning is your thing 🙂

One other nice thing about the Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport is that, like the Residence Inn Sacramento Airport where we stayed during the first part of our vacation, it is one of the hotels that offer dinner for free!  Monday through Wednesday they have what’s called the “Social Hour”.  The planner in me also appreciated that they had a set menu

Now I have a very low threshold for what I will count as “dinner”, but you can see from that menu that we are definitely talking actual dinner.  The Meatball(s) Sliders were very good – it was a bunch of meatballs and sauce along with mini buns.

They also had a salad and cold pasta, which my vegetarian wife appreciated!

Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport cost

Like many things in the Bay Area, the Staybridge Suites San Francisco Airport was fairly pricey.  We ended up using our 2 free IHG night certificates for our 2 free nights and then paid 40,000 points for 1 night for my sister.

[Where I “wasted” my 2 IHG free night certificates]

As I mentioned, I was also charged $34.16 for the upgraded to the 2BR suite for 2 nights, which I felt was very reasonable, since the cost between the 2 rooms was closer to $50-60 / night!
