In this hobby, lots of people will sign up for a card to get the sign-up bonus, get the bonus, and then throw the card in a sock drawer and never use it again. Well, I certainly do! Credit card companies know this, and to get you to spend more on the card, they’ll sometimes send out targeted spending bonuses to consumers in order to get the card out of the sock drawer (and hopefully pay some interest along the way). Recently, I was targeted for a Citi spending bonus on one of my two Citi AAdvantage Platinum Cards, and hopefully you were too!

As you can see, rather than earning 1 point per dollar at phone providers, cable and internet providers, insurance companies, and entertainment subscriptions, I’ll earn 5 points per dollar. This is only good for up to 2,500 points, so my assumption is that you’ll need to spend $500 between now and 6/30/2018 to max this out. If you think I’m doing my math wrong, let me know below!

This should be pretty easy for me, as my phone, internet, and cable bill is ~$140 a month. This could also be a good card to use (if you’re targeted for this promotion) to prepay some insurance costs.

Conclusion

Check your junk mail folders and mailboxes, as you could be targeted for increased spending bonuses from Citi! As always, your offers may not match mine above (hopefully they’re better!), so any data points you can provide in the comments are very welcome! Let us know what offers you’ve received from Citi!
