As part of my recent trip to Greece, my son and I had one night in New York City, and we stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown.  Hotels in New York City (like most other things except dollar pizza slices) are expensive, so this makes it a perfect time to use Wyndham points, since with Wyndham all hotels are a flat 15,000 points / night

Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown review – location

The Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown is located on 35th Street between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue in midtown Manhattan.  It is super convenient to multiple subway stops on 34th Street (A/C/E line, 1/2/3 line, or R/N/W/Q/B/D/F at Herald Square).  We took the Q70 bus from LaGuardia and then the E train from Jackson Heights / Roosevelt Avenue, and on our way out, we took the E train to the Sutphin / Archer / JFK stop and then the Air Train to JFK.

The Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown is a fairly small hotel, as pictured above

We have “Platinum” status with Wyndham, which I don’t even know what that means, but we were not mentioned about any upgrade or anything.  Nevertheless, we were given a room at the Wingate by Wyndham Midtown Manhattan on the 18th and highest floor, which turned out to have this AMAZING view…

Our room was fine and had all of the basics

a hotel room with two beds

The bathroom was basic, although one nice thing about the shower at the Manhattan Midtown Wingate was that it met my basic criteria – hot water quickly, shower with good pressure, and the curtain even had the magnets on the bottom that help it to stay in place

Because the Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown hotel is so small, there are actually only 5 rooms on each floor.  3 of them looked similar in size to ours, while there were 2 larger ones.  I caught a look in one while it was being cleaned and it looks like a one bedroom suite with a king bed

Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown review – breakfast

The Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown does offer complimentary breakfast from 6am to 10am, which is downstairs off of the lobby.  It has a small seating area there (super blurry picture below; sorry)

The breakfast was your typical continental breakfast with two hot items – on the day I was there it was eggs and sausage, both of which were good

Also an assortment of cold items, juices and a waffle maker

Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown amenities

The 2nd floor of the Wyndham Wingate Manhattan Midtown also has a business center with a computer / printer which we used to print off of our boarding passes.

There is also a fitness center which is in the basement / cellar.  Weirdly enough, you go down through the stairs through a place that looks like you should not be (pictured below), and then go through the door to a hallway with a few meeting rooms and the fitness center

I didn’t take a picture of the fitness center because there was someone in it and I didn’t want to be super creepy… 🙂  There are pictures on the hotel website

Wingate Manhattan Midtown price and cost

The Wyndham by Wingate Manhattan Midtown runs about $200 / night.  Here’s a screenshot from the hotel website for a random upcoming night

You can also check upcoming hotel rates at hotels.com or read reviews at TripAdvisor.

This price IMO makes it a great time to use Wyndham points – we used 15,000 Wyndham points we had gotten from the credit card signup a few months ago when it had a 45,000 point signup bonus.  Much better than using those points for a night at the Super 8, right?

Great stay at the Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown and I’d definitely return – what about you?  Have you stayed here?  What other Manhattan hotels would you recommend?
