Choice is back with another promotion where you can earn 8,000 points after just two stays. This is enough for a free night at some of their hotels, including some in Tokyo that offer excellent value. Most Choice Hotels are budget or mid-range properties, and they offer very few upscale places, so keep that in mind if you’re more interested in luxury. Still, using points can’t be beat in certain places where cash rates are astronomical, including Scandinavia.

Details of the promotion

This promotion is essentially the same as the last one:

  • Stay two separate times
  • Choice will award you a total of 8,000 points for your trouble. This isn’t the same as 8,000 additional points; they will augment whatever you already receive from the stay itself until it totals 8,000 base points.
  • Repeat as many times as you’d like.

You must register here, or click the link through the email received from Choice.

The terms do state that a minimum of 5,000 points will be awarded, so if you have an expensive Choice stay, you’ll end up with at least that many more. You must book through a qualifying rate through a qualifying channel (i.e. not through an OTA) to receive points. You must also not be staying on an award night, and the rate must be at least $40 per night. Also, stays at vacation rental property locations and Choice Hotels properties in the following countries are excluded from this promotion: Japan, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Guyana, and Ecuador.

I’ve taken advantage of this promotion before, using work travel to earn 16,000 points last year during back-to-back trips, including a stay at the Comfort Inn Monticello. Choice is one of those programs I trend to forget about, but their points are nice to have in a pinch and I’ve used them a few times when there wasn’t another good option.
