I’ve written before that I sometimes “forget” to book my positioning flights (more than once), which as you can imagine, causes some problems for our trips. I have gotten much better at doing this, but am currently running into a situation for an upcoming trip where I have not yet booked my flights, and we are getting dangerously close to the date we are supposed to leave.
Heading to Japan
My wife and I are heading to Japan in a few weeks. This is a pretty cool trip, and I have booked most of the flights. I just haven’t booked our flights TO Japan. Although technically, we aren’t necessarily looking for flights to Japan. I’m willing to fly to anywhere in Southeast Asia, stay for a day or two and then go to Japan (where we have flights booked home).

I would prefer to fly business class, especially since it’s such a long flight, though I’ve also looked at a few premium economy options. Nothing has really hit the budget I want to pay yet, so I keep looking
Am I crazy?
We are definitely going on this trip, so I can’t decide if I’m crazy for not having booked anything yet. My reasoning is that there is tons of economy award availability, so in the worst case where I can’t find anything in premium economy or business class, then I’ll just bite the bullet and book an economy ticket. Given the fact that most award tickets are fully refundable, I should probably go ahead and book at least SOMETHING as a backup plan. But maybe I’ll just keep living dangerously :-).
The Bottom Line – I Haven’t Booked My Flights
I have an upcoming trip to Asia, and while I’ve booked quite a bit of the trip, I haven’t yet booked my flights TO Japan (or somewhere in Asia). I should probably book at least a backup flight, but I am counting on / hoping for premium cabin availability to open up as we get closer to the date of the travel.
