\As I continue to enjoy racking up Hilton Honors Points through my portfolio of cards, this is another great way to boost your points bank! Hilton is doing an up to 100% bonus on the points you buy. This bonus expires November 21st. You can normally buy up to 80,000 points per year, but for this promotion Hilton is also upping the maximum to 240,000 points through this promotion, meaning you’d come away with as many as 480,000 Hilton points
Hilton Honors Points 100% Bonus
The current promotion is targeted, with different people getting different promotions, up to a 100% bonus. I currently value Hilton Honors Points at 6/10 of a cent per point (.006). You are able to purchase up to 240,000 points, which will earn you an extra 240,000 on top, for $1600 USD. This leaves you a value of 1/2 a cent per point (.005), which is a bit under my value. It is up to you to decide how much they are worth. But the real value is how you use them!
My family recently stayed 5 nights at the Homewood Suites Orlando International Drive for only 140,000 Hilton points, and got a free upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. Those rooms were going for nearly $250 / night, which means that we got nearly 1 cent per point value!
While I’m generally against buying points speculatively, if you need some points for your next redemption, it could be worth topping up your account or if you have a specific redemption in mind

However, I recommend applying for a Hilton Honors American Express Card to complement your points purchase (see below). With this, you will be well on your way to a beautiful award stay!
Getting more Hilton points
Generally I am more of a fan of using credit card welcome offers to get points instead of buying points. Right now several of the Hilton American Express cards have increased welcome offers:
- Hilton Honors American Express Card – Earn 100,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 on eligible purchases within your first 6 months of Card Membership. $0 annual fee (see rates and fees).

I bought Points at the 100% bonus and booked a room at Embassy Suites, Tampa for 5 nights for 160,000 points (5th night free). So the cost for points at 100% bonus is $800. The AARP rate for hotel during that stay would have cost me $1,813 with tax. So I saved over $1000 for the 5 nights. GREAT DEAL
Yes – there’s no doubt that selectively buying points (especially for a known redemption like you did) can save money

The Hilton points have continued to be down graded. 9 months ago at a Hilton around Boston Logan’s Airport a standard room was between 20-30,000 points. 2 days ago same area redemption was between 40-65,000. I have found similar jumps in properties not near airports…..time to move more to Hyatt’s
Hilton cost for points always seem to be more than the cash cost of the room, if you shop around. Most of the time, I’ve seen 35,000 points for a room you can get for $125, so why buy the points for $175.00 and call that a “sale” price on points?
Yeah – it’s definitely hit or miss. I’ve seen situations like the ones you describe, but I’ve often seen instances where you can save money even buying points. But I would not recommend buying Hilton points speculatively (i.e. without a specific redemption in mind)
If you are Diamond with 5th night free on an award stay the economics shift, especially at overseas Hiltons with executive lounges.
I agree with the points not seeming to offer a night for what a cash purchase would buy. If a Hilton card member most Hotels offer a lower rate.
i continually stay at waldorfs after having bought points and save at least 60% over what i would be paying anyway, so i feel money ahead. every time points come for sale i buy.

You can almost always get a better paid rate than what it costs to buy the points required. Even at half price. It’s a scam.

I wouldn’t buy them speculatively, but if you have an upcoming stay where it makes sense, it’s best to buy them when they’re offering a 100% bonus (which is fairly often)
I just got the Aspire card and earned 175k points for a 6k spend. After reaching the SUB, I had about 196k points. I wanted to book the Conrad Bora Bora for 4 nights using points to get the 5th night free. At that time, The rates were 120k per night. They are now 200k/night due to the recent changes. The cost of the room in cash when I booked was $2900/night. I purchased 142,000 points for $1420 and received 284,000 points. I booked 4 nights with the 5th night free. Cash price would have been over $16,000 after adding in the taxes and fees. I got quite the deal for $1420.
As I mentioned, I don’t normally recommend buying points speculatively, but your example is the perfect use case for when it makes a ton of sense to buy points. And if you’re going to buy points, best to do them during a big bonus event
