In 2025, as part of a trip with my son’s Scout troop to Northern Tier, I stayed one night at the Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison. This Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison review will give an idea of the different amenities and features of the hotel and hopefully help you decide if you want to stay here if you’re looking for a Madison hotel.

Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison location
The Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison is located at 7184 Morrisonville Road Deforest, Wisconsin 53532. It’s located right off of I-90 in the town of DeForest, Wisconsin. DeForest is about 10-15 minutes north of Madison, so it can work as a Madison hotel depending on where in Madison you’re going.

I had read some of the reviews (it’s about time I did that!) that talked about the hotel being a bit dated, so I was pleased to see that they were undergoing some pretty serious renovations. The lady I spoke to at the front desk said they were basically replacing everything inside and out.

Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison cost
We were booking this as part of a Scout trip, so we were looking for a cheap Madison hotel, but didn’t want to stay in the absolute cheapest hotel out there. For 3 rooms, the cash cost was about $500, but I instead bought 58,000 points for $290 with a 100% point bonus, and booked the rooms for 19,000 points each.

Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison review – room
We booked 3 “2 queen” rooms and divided them up between the 8 of us that were staying. The beds and pillows were comfortable enough.

Here is the other side of the room, with a desk and TV

This is the bathroom, which was small but functional. The shower had good temperature and pressure.

This was a hotel layout where the sink is out in the hallway separate from the bathroom that has the toilet and shower.

Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison wifi and amenities
Wifi is complimentary in the lobby and in the guest rooms. The Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison wifi speed was decent and I had no issues using it, though I forgot to get a screenshot of the speed.
There is a computer and printer out in the lobby (no separate business center)

There is an indoor pool as well.

There is a small fitness center.

Laundry is available for an additional charge

Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison hotel review – parking
The Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison does have complimentary parking, which was plentiful. We had no issues parking our 15 passenger van. It’s also located near a gas station and a Culver’s restaurant.
Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison food
Breakfast is complimentary at the Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison – it’s served in a small breakfast area right off the lobby.

There were several hot dishes and a pancake maker.

And of course Holiday Inn Express cinnamon rolls

And maybe this is turning into a thing, but the breakfast attendant was openly requesting tips.

The Bottom Line – Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison review
If you are looking for a cheap Madison Wisconsin hotel, I thought that the Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison had several things going for it. It was very easy to get to from the highway (or airport), and the price was decent. I think the Holiday Inn Express Deforest / Madison could be a great option if you’re looking for a Madison hotel.
