My wife and I traveled to Denver recently for the Travel & Adventure Show in Downtown Denver. We wanted to be walking distance from the Colorado Convention Center. So we decided to stay at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Denver for the weekend. We were quite pleased with the hotel overall, especially with our upgrade.

Crowne Plaza Downtown Denver Review

The Crowne Plaza in Downtown Denver is located just down the street from the Colorado Convention Center, the 16th Street Mall, and the Denver Pavillions. With everything walking distance, it makes for an easy experience.

Upon check-in, we approach the front desk and the concierge was quick to approach us with suggestions! I always appreciate a local view on the city. He recommended one of the best burger places I’ve ever been to, 5280 Burger Bar.

Nonetheless, the lobby area of the hotel was very welcoming and well designed.

I was a bit disappointed though that their outdoor heated pool was under construction. However, it’s probably best I didn’t go outside to swim since it was ~25 degrees.

How I Paid For The Stay

It was about 70,000 IHG points for the two nights, which are worth roughly ~$350. The stay cost $240 after taxes, so it was easy to choose paying cash. I earned 5,106 points with the stay, which are worth roughly ~$25.

The best part of the check-in was the gracious upgrade we were given to the “1 King Bed With Living Room and City Views” room. I was able to get an upgrade with my Platinum Elite status by holding the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.

Also, with status you are traditionally given a “welcome amenity”. We had the choice of either 600 IHG points (worth about $3) or 2 free drinks at the hotel bar. I wasn’t pleased with the points offering so I took the drinks. Two drinks at a bar would typically cost ~$20. I checked my email a few minutes later and I was sent the points anyway! This put a smile on my face.

So far, I was a happy camper.

The Room

I was really happy with the room! It did feel a bit small because of the lower ceilings, but overall a great room nonetheless. I’ll give it a 8.9/10.

Final Thoughts

We were very much pleased with the Crowne Plaza Downtown Denver. It isn’t the absolute most luxurious, but it didn’t disappoint by any means. If you are able to complement stays like this with a travel rewards credit card, it can make your travels that much better!
