Southwest is out with another promotion – this time you can get a 50% off promotion code if you book a

Southwest is back with a promotion where you can get 50% off a new flight, as long as you buy one round trip or two one-way flights.

• 1. Register then buy a round trip (or two one-way flights) by 8/3.
• 2. Travel by 9/30.
• 3. Get a 50% off promo code valid 10/17-11/23 for travel 1/8-3/6/24. Blackout dates apply.

Deals are available through its website. Given the flexibility that Southwest offers from a cancellation perspective, it makes sense to book a trip even if you’re not sure if you can take it in order to take advantage of 40% off. If things don’t improve from a travel standpoint, it will be easy to cancel.

If you don’t have Southwest points, you can still bank a travel credit for a future trip. As a reminder, if Southwest hosts a sale, make sure you check any existing flights you have already purchased. Southwest has no change fees, and if the sale price is lower, you will receive a credit for the difference usable for future Southwest fares. Also, if you change your mind after you buy one of these flights, remember that any fare marketed in the US is free to cancel within 24 hours.

Good for existing flights too

Remember, because of Southwest’s cancellation and change policy, this promo could work even if you already have a Southwest flight booked, as long as it’s within the travel period. If you have an existing flight, you can cancel and rebook. If you have an existing flight during the promo travel period, you might be able to rebook it with the 50% off promo if you also have a new flight you want to book (to get the 50% off promo code)

Note that I was not able to go through the normal “change” process because it wouldn’t let me apply the promo code as part of this process. So I just canceled the first flight and rebooked with the promo code for 40% fewer points.
