airberlin is going (went? I’m a little confused on the timeline) out of business and any miles you might have in their loyalty program (topbonus) are worthless. As part of the liquidation process, there is money set aside
Thanks to Stefan @ Rapid Travel Chai for alerting me to a Flyertalk thread that is reporting that you can get (or at least make a claim for) 0.0036 Euros per topbonus mile you have in your account. You don’t have to make a claim if you want to reserve the right to sue airberlin yourself (good luck)
How to make a claim for your airberlin topbonus miles
The official claim site is at https://topbonus.insolvenz-solution.de/. It’s all in German, so Google Translate is your friend. The only thing it wasn’t translating for me was the dropdown for country. So in case that happens to you, Vereinigte Staaten is United States in German :-). You have to put in your information. Bank information is optional – I left it blank as I did not have a bank account with an IBAN / BIC or number. Supposedly you’ll be able to put in that information later. Clicking through got me to the following screen
I had 1000 miles from signing up and then there was a deal awhile back where you could get up to 9500 Topbonus miles for referring “friends” and I do mean “friends” in air quotes :-). Everything with those miles required huge fuel surcharges to use so I never ended up doing anything with them and am quite happy to cash them out for 36 Euros (if this actually comes to pass)
Last day to file is tomorrow (Wednesday) April 25th
Good luck!

“0.036 Euros per topbonus mile”
Wrong by an order of magnitude. You can also expect only 1-3 per cent of the value you claim.
So for your 10k miles claimed, you can expect to receive about 1 euro.
Well you are right that I’m off by an order of magnitude (should be 0.0036 Euros). As for what percent of the value you claim, who knows. You may very well be right
The amount you stated (the 36 Euros) was your claim against TopBonus. Having a quick look at the “Insolvenzplan” they expect a quota between 0.7% and 7.4%
The 0.7% everyone should receive (so 25 Cents for you) – the remainder will only be wired if the Company reaches certain goals after emerging from insolvency
