In 2025, I attended a convention in Southern California. It was located at the Pasadena Convention Center, which is in Old Town Pasadena. I booked a stay at  the Hyatt Place Pasadena. This Hyatt Place Pasadena review will give an idea of the different amenities and features of the hotel and hopefully help you decide if you want to stay here if you’re looking for a Pasadena hotel.

Hyatt Place Pasadena location

The Hyatt Place Pasadena is located at 399 E Green Street, Pasadena, CA 91101. It’s located in the Los Angeles suburb of Pasadena, and about 30 miles from LAX. It is closer to the Burbank airport (BUR). It is within a short walk from both the Del Mar and Memorial Park stations on the Metro A line. We took the FlyAway bus from LAX to Union Station, then connected to the Metro A Line and walked about 5-10 minutes from the station to the hotel.

Hyatt Place Pasadena cost

The cash rates were fairly steep compared to what I normally expect from a Hyatt Place. This is probably related to both it being in California as well as there being a large convention at the convention center next door. The cash rate for some of the nights we were looking to stay were nearly $400 / night (before taxes)

But thanks to the trick of combining free night certificates and points with Hyatt on the same reservation, I was able to “adjust” things and end up paying 30,000 points plus a free night certificate from the World of Hyatt card.

There’s a number of ways you can calculate the value of that redemption, but I estimated it at 3.84 cents per Hyatt point, which is outstanding value.

Hyatt Place Pasadena review – room

I was staying with two of my sons, so we booked a 2 queen room, which also comes with a pullout sofa bed. We arrived early (around 10 a.m.) and they were able to accommodate us with a room on the 6th (top) floor.

Hyatt Place Pasadena wifi and amenities

Wifi is complimentary in the lobby and in the guest rooms for Hyatt members. The Hyatt Place Pasadena wifi speed was decent and I had no issues using it.

There is an outdoor pool as well on the second floor. It is heated and open year-round, as you might expect in Southern California

Hyatt Place Pasadena hotel review – parking

Due to it being located in Old Town Pasadena, the Hyatt Place Pasadena does not have complimentary parking. Instead, self-parking is $30 / night in an attached parking garage, with in and out privileges. We did not have a car during our stay (and arrived via Uber and Metro), so we did not pay the parking fees.

Hyatt Place Pasadena food

The Hyatt Place Pasadena has a number of options for food, similar to many other Hyatt Place hotels.

They have “The Placery” restaurant and bar, where you can get food. My son got a small 8″ pizza one day and it was around $15.

There is a small market near the restaurant where you can buy various snacks. Annoyingly they do not have listed prices – instead, you have to scan any item to see what the price is. As a comparison, a 20oz Diet Pepsi rang up at $4.50. I declined…

Breakfast is not complimentary for all guests. Instead, you have to book a room rate that includes breakfast. It is complimentary for Hyatt Discoverists and up – I am currently a Discoverist member thanks to the World of Hyatt credit card, so we did get breakfast included in our rate.

The breakfast was similar to what you would find in most Hyatt Place restaurants, though I did overhear one of the other (younger) guests tell his friend that this was “the GOAT breakfast” :-).

The Bottom Line – Hyatt Place Pasadena review

If you are looking for a cheap Old Town Pasadena hotel, I thought that the Hyatt Place Pasadena had several things going for it. It was very easy to get to from the Interstate (or airport, or Downtown), and the price was decent. I think the Hyatt Place Pasadena could be a great option if you’re looking for a Pasadena hotel.
