Amtrak will always hold a place in my heart in the award travel world. It was actually one of my first major award travel wins, back in the day when Chase issued the co-branded Mastercard and Amtrak was a transfer partner. I signed up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Amtrak Guest Rewards Mastercard around the same time and used essentially all the points for three long legs of first-class sleeper car train travel.

It was all part of a grand honeymoon plan. At the end of the day, we paid $70 for over $3,000 of train travel. Utterly amazing. But enough reminiscing. Back to the current promotion.

Amtrak Double Days Promotion Details

Amtrak’s Double Days is a routine promotion that comes around. You have to register beforehand to participate, as with many promotions (LINK).

The way it works is pretty simple: you earn twice the points you normally would on Amtrak travel. It doesn’t matter whether this is train travel, Acela express travel, or even riding on one of their connecting bus routes. Once registered, you will earn double points for all travel between March 18 and May 18.

If you’re a regular traveler on Amtrak, I’m sure you received the email and are already registered. The extra points will give you a nice boost. Note that no more than four one-way segments per day will be credited at the doubled rate, per the promotion terms.

Other than that, it is simple. Register. Then ride.
