A few months ago, my family took a week long trip to Universal Studios Orlando in Florida. We stayed most of our nights at the Homewood Suites Orlando International Drive / Convention Center, but on our last night, we had an early morning flight so we wanted to stay closer to the airport. We had turned in our rental car (actually we had used Turo which turned out WAY better), so we didn’t want to deal with having to get an Uber (actually 2 Ubers) for a 30-40 minute drive to the airport at 5 in the morning to make an 8:00 flight. After looking at our options, we chose to stay at the Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South.

Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South location

The Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South is located at 7450 Augusta National Drive Orlando, Florida 32822, about 2 miles from the airport. The Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South is located in an area with tons of hotel and lodging options.

As you would expect from an airport hotel, the Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South does have an airport shuttle. The shuttle runs 24 hours but one negative is that it only runs on the hour. So that meant that for our 8:08 a.m. flight, we had to take the 6 a.m. shuttle since we didn’t want to risk trying to make it on the 7 a.m. shuttle. Ideally I would have preferred a (hypothetical) 6:30 a.m. shuttle, since our 6 a.m. shuttle meant waking up 30 minutes earlier and also caused us to miss breakfast (which starts at 6:30 a.m.). Not a gigantic deal (we ended up having our breakfast at The Club MCO Terminal A lounge thanks to our Priority Pass membership)

Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South hotel review – cost

The Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South usually runs about $125-$175 / night, and is a Category 5 hotel costing 30,000 IHG points / night. We booked it as a Category 4 (25,000 points per night) but this Orlando airport hotel was one of the 500+ hotels that went up in cost as part of the IHG 2019 category changes. With the IHG Premier credit card you do get the 4th night free as well as a welcome offer that usually ranges from 60,000 to 120,000 points, if that’s something that would work out for you.

While booking it on points only books you into a 1 bedroom suite, we used our traditional strategy of emailing the hotel asking to be upgraded to a 2BR suite. With only mid-tier status this was not a problem at all and the hotel gave us the upgrade at no additional cost

As I mentioned, we had the 2 bedroom suite, which has 1 bedroom with 2 double beds and 1 bedroom with 1 queen bed. When you walk into the room there is living room with couch and TV.

Here’s a picture of the 2 double bed bedroom.

Each of the bedrooms has their own bathroom with a sink area and a room with a toilet and tub / shower.

There is also a full kitchen in each suite which I seem to have missed a picture of 🙁

Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South – food

The seating area at the Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South is quite large.

One nice thing that I enjoy was that the pop machine was out for the breakfast and social hour, meaning that you could self-serve (in addition to hot water and coffee). I much prefer this to hotels where breakfast just has juice and the dinner / social hours either have no drinks or only alcoholic drinks.

As I mentioned earlier, we had to leave the hotel before breakfast so I didn’t get a chance to sample or take pictures of it, but I would imagine it would be your fairly standard Staybridge Suites fare with a mixture of hot and cold items.

It also has a pantry with overpriced snacks and drinks that you can buy

a shelf with drinks and beverages on it

Here are the prices to give you an idea of whether that’s something you’d be interested in.

Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South – social hour (dinner)

Because this is one of the hotels that offer free dinner, there is a Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South social hour / manager’s reception. The Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South dinner is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday.

We were there on the evening of the 22nd, which meant Taco Bar. I’ve found that these types of manager’s reception / evening social / dinners vary fairly widely from hotel to hotel and from brand to brand. The dinner here at the Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South was quite substantial – it was a full taco bar with hard and soft tacos, plenty of meat and beans and other fixings.

Orlando Airport Staybridge Suites amenities

The Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South has an outdoor swimming pool (not pictured), as well as a fitness center.

One interesting feature was that instead of a separate business center, they just a table with 2 computers out in the middle of the lobby. It worked fine, except for me spilling Diet Coke all over everything when trying to print out our boarding passes…

We did have one problem that came up during our stay and the hotel handled it perfectly. We had a great time here at the Staybridge Suites Orlando Airport South – the only complaint I would have was the relative infrequency of the airport shuttle, but we would definitely stay again.
