In 2025, as part of a staycation, I stayed one night at the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays. This TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays Kansas review will give an idea of the different amenities and features of the hotel and hopefully help you decide if you want to stay here if you’re looking for a western Kansas hotel.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays location
The TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays is located at 4001 General Hays Road, Hays, Kansas, 67601. It’s located right off of I-70, and made for a convenient stop for my son and I as we drove from Cincinnati to Utah. Unless you’re visiting Fort Hays State University or have family in the area, I imagine the best reason to book this would be if you are roadtripping and this hits your stopping place for the night.
TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays Kansas cost
We were looking for a cheap West Kansas hotel, but didn’t want to stay in the absolute cheapest hotel out there. We had an expiring Marriott 50K certificate which is what we used, although it probably wasn’t the greatest use of one of those certificates. The cash cost for our nights was $180 after taxes and the points cost was 21,000 points per night. Still, this certificate was “use it or lose it”, which is why we decided to use it.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays Kansas – room
We booked a 2 Queen suite. Right when you come into the room, there is a small kitchen area with a cooktop, microwave, dishwasher and fridge.

The beds and pillows were comfortable enough.

Here is the other side of the room, with a desk and TV

The bathroom was small but functional. The shower had good temperature and pressure.

In the bathroom there is a small closet

Marriott TownePlace Suites Hays wifi and amenities
Wifi is complimentary in the lobby and in the guest rooms. The TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays Kansas wifi speed was decent and I had no issues using it, but I forgot to get a picture.
There is a computer and printer out in the lobby (no separate business center)

There is an indoor pool as well.

There is a fitness center which is a fairly decent size for a hotel of this caliber.

Laundry facilities are available for a cost

They offer a few complimentary things that you can borrow, including games and kitchen items.

There is an outdoor kitchen / eating area, which is probably much more fun in the summer than it was on the bitter cold January morning when I took this picture :-). You can rent grilling supplies (see above) and I could see this being a nice place to hang out.

There is a sign leading to this area from the breakfast area

which my son and I both independently read as “Brat” (jerk) rather than “Brat” (wurst) 😀
TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays Kansas hotel review – parking
The TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays does have complimentary parking, which was plentiful.
Marriott Hays Kansas TownePlace Suites by food
Breakfast is complimentary at the Hays Marriott – it’s served in a breakfast area right off the lobby.

There were several hot dishes, which I assume are rotated each day

One thing that I found amusing was this sign

I mean I am all for buffet cleanliness, but it seems a bit over the top to request tongs to pick up muffins that are wrapped in plastic!
There is a market near the front desk with overpriced food and other sundries

The Bottom Line – TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays review
If you are looking for a cheap West Kansas hotel, I thought that the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays had several things going for it. It was very easy to get to from the highway, and the price was decent. I think the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Hays could be a great option if you’re looking for a hotel in the area.
