So on a quiet (holiday) weekend, I thought I’d share a news article I saw from CNBC on the world’s “worst” cities to travel.
Posts like these are totally subjective but I thought that they might spark a bit of conversation on a rather slow weekend day. They ranked the “worst” city in several different categories
Most polluted/noisiest: Delhi, India
Most congested: Moscow, Russia
Most overcrowded: Mumbai, India
Most unfriendly: Johannesburg, South Africa
Most expensive: London, England
Most dangerous: Caracas, Venezuela
Most disadvantaged: Conakry, Guinea
Personally I have never been to any of these cities, so I’d love to hear from some of you who have! What do you think, and are there other cities that you would nominate?

I totally believe it about Moscow! I have not been there but have been to other cities in Russia that are very congested. I’m surprised that London is the most expensive. I’ve only been there once but our hotel wasn’t too bad and there are many less expensive lodging places just a short tube ride away.
Rankings like this always sublimate the bad for the masses. Jo’burg is not the friendliest, certainly…but the worst?I’ve always had friendly and positive experiences for the 3 times I’ve been there (and I’ll be back 2 more times in the next 6 mos).
Moscow’s traffic is definitely up there. So is Beijing’s if you ask me–which I’d put as the worst we’ve ever experienced, though only for a single visit.
London is expensive…but doesn’t hold a candle to Oslo or Geneva in my opinion.
Yeah – I have heard that London is expensive but also heard that Scandinavia is super expensive as well. Definitely think some of these rankings are just made up. Any ranking of “friendliness” is hard to analyze because it can be so influenced by one or two bad experiences.
There’s no way London is the most expensive. It’s not exactly cheap, but Zurich is far pricier. London at least has plenty of options for cheap dining, as well as cheaper accommodations, provided you’re savvy with utilizing the Underground system. Granted, I only spent 2 days in Zurich, but my time there was spent trying to find a meal for less than 20 euros.
Dehli is indeed crowded & polluted but so is Cairo. I found it worse. The buildings (once whitish) are now the color of dirt (smoking and cars without pollution controls contribute to the haze). To cross a street in Cairo is an Olympic event. T here are very few traffic signals & fewer observance of same. Dehli, at least, has vibrance and areas that are elegant and very modern. I think there are 2 Indias a 21st century & 13th century living in strange connection. I could breathe in Dehli not so much in Cairo (and I was staying in the Embassy area blocks from the Nile)
Yea your right….London most expensive. First time visiting got hungry had a bowl of soup French bread glass of wine and it cost me 32 pounds… Won’t be back anytime soon. I’ll stick to central and South America
