Yesterday we talked about 2 current discounts on premium cabin award travel (though one of those has to be booked by today!).  Today we’re going to talk about transfer bonuses for 2 different flexible currencies.

While I always suggest starting with your destination in mind first BEFORE just signing up for credit cards, if you are going to just sign up for credit cards, signing up for ones with what we call “flexible” currencies is a smarter move than locking yourself into a specific currency.  The advantage of these flexible currencies (like Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards or Citi ThankYou points) is that they can transfer to a variety of airline and hotel partners, so you’re better insulated from possible currency devaluations

Amex 50% bonus to Iberia Avios

First up is a 50% bonus from American Express Membership Rewards to Iberia Avios.  Normally 250 Membership Rewards transfer to only 200 Iberia Avios, but under this bonus, you’ll get 300 Avios (so it ends up being only a 20% bonus of your Membership Rewards)

While this is for Iberia Avios, under most circumstances you can transfer / combine Iberia Avios to British Airways Avios.  Even if you mostly travel in the USA, you can use British Airways to travel domestic

(SEE ALSO: British Airways finally paid me 25,000 Avios)

If you don’t already have an Iberia Avios account, I’d recommend signing up for one now, even if you don’t have any immediate use for it.  Your Iberia account has to be opened for I believe 90 days before you can transfer Avios to British Airways.

Citi ThankYou points 50% bonus to Hilton HHonors

The other 50% bonus is Citi ThankYou points transferring to Hilton HHonors.

Normally you get 1500 Hilton HHonors points for 1000 ThankYou points, but for a limited time you can get 2000 Hilton points.

This isn’t one that I’d recommend unless you have a specific Hilton redemption in mind because generally I’d value ThankYou points at more than 2 times the worth of a Hilton point.  We stayed at the Category 2 Doubletree in Johor Bahru Malaysia (10,000 points) and it was amazing

The Citibank -> Hilton transfer bonus ends February 8, 2017
