Airlines are now in a race for the best points program. With Delta Airlines very quickly improving the value of their SkyMiles, American has now introduced their Web Specials!

American Airlines Web Specials

American Airlines rewards program has needed some improvements, and now they are making them. Some airports that are included in these sales include Austin, Los Angeles, DFW, Boston, Orlando, Las Vegas, AND HAWAII!

Some of these flights start as low as 5,000 miles. For those looking to stretch your AAdvantage miles, this is a great way to do it. For example, here is an example from LAX to LAS.

However, it is a bit of a fine line that airlines are playing right now. If airfare continued to fall in price, the effort of earning miles could potentially be deemed “a waste of time”. I wouldn’t argue that personally, but I could see how that could be an argument.

American Advantage miles are worth roughly 1.4 cents per point, and specials like this could actually allow you to get less value. There may be times where paying cash maybe suit the points and miles aficionado better off.

I have about 40,000 miles AAdvantage miles left after I booked my wife and I Business/First Class from San Jose, Costa Rica to Philadelphia to Salt Lake City. Looks like I need to save these for some of these web specials!
