The ongoing fare war to Australia has widened to Atlanta, with confirmed fares from as low as $627 to Melbourne, and $641 to Sydney, and Brisbane. All are bookable directly through the major domestic airlines, plus Priceline, Expedia, and Orbitz. Some smaller online travel agencies are showing even lower fares if you are comfortable booking with lesser-known sites. Additionally, Los Angeles to Sydney is confirmed at $569, with Melbourne and Brisbane at about the same price. New York and San Francisco also have round trips for below $650 to the same destinations, providing access from the northwest and northeast USA.

Fares include checked bags and carry-ons, plus all taxes and fees. Prices are widely available for travel in May through November, though slightly more spare in June and July. But these fares will disappear without warning: similar sale prices available from Washington, Dallas and Chicago have already dried up, so book quickly.
