Overnight, news came out of a new Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite⢠Mastercard®  offer.  I first learned about it over on the Points With a Crew miles and points Slack channel, but it appears that the original source was over on reddit.
The big news about this offer is that looking through the terms and conditions of the application, there was no language excluding the bonus from people that had opened or closed an AAdvantage card within the past 24 months.
You’ll probably recall that a few months ago, Citibank changed their rules so that if you have opened or closed ANY Citi AAdvantage card within the past 24 months, you won’t get a signup bonus. Ā You can see the language on most of their credit card applications – here is what it says on the application page of the public offer
American Airlines AAdvantageĀ® bonus miles are not available if you have had any CitiĀ® / AAdvantageĀ® card (other than a CitiBusinessĀ® / AAdvantageĀ® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

This 24 month exclusionary language is NOT on the link in this post
My experiences applying
I applied right away and got a pending message and email. Ā Although in many cases, my suggestion is that you NOT call the reconsideration line and just let the application process play out, this time I felt it was prudent to call in.
For whatever reason, the application processing seemed to take FOREVER. Ā I was on hold for probably 15-20 minutes but eventually I was told that I was approved, after moving some of my credit line around. Ā Luckily for me, for some reason I had a lot of Citi cards š so I had a lot of options to move my credit around.
I asked the agent if there was a welcome bonus attached to the card and she confirmed that it was for 50,000 American AAdvantage miles after spending $3000 in the first 3 months. Ā I am not sure that guarantees that I’ll get the signup bonus but I am at least cautiously optimistic.
Here is theĀ link to the Citi AAdvantage Platinum 50K applicationĀ page – I do not get a commission if you are approved throughĀ this link.

Don’t bank on it. The 24 mo language is usually on the landing page and not disclosed on the app page itself. The language indicating you will not receive the bonus if you opened or closed within 24 months IS there when you click on the link for the details:

I have the Citi AA Platinum Select opened 8 mos ago. I did app for this and got an instant approval. We will see if they give the bonus after I meet the required spend.
The fine print also states: “This offer is only valid for new accounts.” … but they’re not clear on what constitutes a “new account” :-/
I currently have this card, opened in June 2015, so does that mean getting it again would not qualify as a “new account?”
Either way, I don’t think I’ll apply — I’d hate to waste a $3,000 spend and end up with no bonus points if they belatedly invoke the 24-month rule š
I applied after having 3 citi AA cards in 2016. I got my confirmation of the bonus in a letter today. It works !!!!
