There are a couple of new promotion between American Express and Walmart for US card members enrolled in the Membership Rewards program.
Earn 3 Membership Reward Points
- Shop and visit Walmart.com (accessible via desktop, mobile web and mobile app)
- Earn two additional Membership Rewards points per dollar spent (giving you a total of 3 points)
- Use Amex Express Checkout
- Promo is from July 30 to Aug 30
How do you get 4 Membership Rewards Points per dollar?
Those who have the American Express Business Plus could get 4 MR points per dollar. The Blue card already gets 2 MRs with no category restrictions, and with this Walmart.com promo, it will earn two additional Membership Rewards Points = a total 4 MR points per dollar. All other Amex MR cards will earn 3x.

Use your Membership Rewards points as payment
What else is going on? You can now begin using your American Express Membership Rewards Points as a form of payment. I’ve seen this done with Amazon. Now, Walmart.com is giving this opportunity to pay using MR points.
Amex outlined how the steps as to how this will work:
Membership Rewards® Pay with Points
Select an eligible American Express Card during checkout on Walmart.com desktop, mobile web, mobile app (iOS and Android) and the point balance will be displayed
Enter the dollar amount you wish to apply to your order
Select “place my order” to complete purchase
Within 2-4 business days, a credit for the dollar amount used in points will appear on the American Express statement
Amex Express Checkout
During checkout on Walmart.com desktop, mobile web or mobile app (iOS and Android) select Amex Express Checkout under the + More tab under payment methods
Enter your AmericanExpress.com UserID and Password
Your billing and Card information will be auto-filled in the designated fields, so just confirm and complete your order

Airline portals, mostly. I see that Chase offers two points per dollar as well, though.
