American Airlines is currently having a fare sale between several major U.S. cities and Zurich, Switzerland. We’ve seen a few deals there lately, including a major Delta award sale where you could fly to Zurich for a mere 26,000 Skymiles round-trip. In this case, it may be best to save the miles and book with cash or flexible points.

When: Late October 2018 through May 2019 (holidays excluded)
Where: SFO/LAX/ORD/BOS/DEN (maybe others) to Zurich (ZRH)
Deal: Prices range from $319 to $409 on Google Flights
Conditions: All of the fares require you to book a trip of at least 1 week, sometimes more for the best prices.
You can book directly with American. An itinerary from SFO on British Airways and American metal prices at $349 in late April. There are deals to be had on Delta as well, specifically from Chicago for $335. Alternatively, you could book through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, where flights start at ~22,000 UR points round-trip, if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and can use your points at 1.5 cents each.
