Hat Tip to the EU Flyer, there is an easy way to get 500 SPG points.

(READ: Starwood Preferred Guest program – what is it?)

Starwood is currently running a promotion called “More for You“, where you can earn double or triple points on stays at Starwood.

The promotion has been going on for a month or so.  I haven’t really mentioned anything about it because I do not do many (any?) stays at hotels, so it’s not a promotion that’s particularly lucrative for me.  It’s the same basic reason why I gave up on IHG’s Into the Nights promotion, even though in that case I recognize it can be lucrative for some)

500 Free Starpoints

The interesting twist is that in conjunction with the “More for You” promotion, they are also running a promotion where you can earn 500 Starpoints for updating your .  From the promotion Terms and Conditions:

My Stay Preferences bonus: Registered members are eligible to receive 500 bonus Starpoints when updating the members spg.com profile online between October 15, 2014 and December 15, 2014. Updates made prior to registration are eligible, but only if the update falls within October 15 to December 15, 2014. The bonus will post to the registered member’s account 2-4 weeks after the end of the promotion period. All members who are registered for the More For You promotion are eligible for the My Stay Preferences bonus regardless of whether they have an eligible booking in the promotion.

Note that you do not have to have any eligible stays to earn the 500 bonus points (emphasis mine)

Updating your My Stay Preferences

Note that you DO need to register for the “More for You” promotion, even if you don’t make a stay.  You can do that from the “More for You” promotion page.  Once you do that, you can log on to your account, and click on “My Profile”

Once you’re there, scroll down to My Stay Preferences which will bring up the following screen

Pick a few preferences, then choose Save Changes.  And that’s it!  Points should post in 2-4 weeks after the end of the promotion (December 15), so probably around the beginning of the year.

That’s about as easy as it comes for 500 Starpoints, right?  Certainly less time than I spent playing “Tap into Luxury“… Remember that those 500 Starpoints convert to American Airlines, British Airways or other airline partners.
