UPDATE: The Hyatt Diamond Challenge is now open to everyone.  Click for more details

The hyatt-diamond-challenge-2015-hyatt-logoHyatt Diamond Challenge was probably the best one out there.  As long as you had a mid-tier status like Hilton Gold (which is easy to get for free through a credit card), you could ask Hyatt for a Diamond Challenge.

(READ: Hotel status match – how to match at each chain)

You would be immediately granted Hyatt Diamond status while you took part of the challenge, AND given 4 Suite upgrades to use, even if you never completed the challenge!  Then you’d just need to stay 12 times over the next 60 days to keep your Diamond Status over the next year or so.  There were even reports of people asking for a “challenge” right before a big stay where they wanted the status (such as to Disney or Hawaii), even with no intention of actually completing the challenge.

All that came to an end back in October, when Hyatt announced the end of the Hyatt Diamond Challenge.

But the end is not actually the end?

Right after that report came out back in October, there were some who suggested that this was not actually the end of the Hyatt Diamond Challenge, but that the Diamond Challenge had always had an expiration date and was always being renewed.

It turned out that this was not the case this time and there has been no Hyatt Diamond Challenge since the end of October.  In the meantime, I gave some thoughts to what a new Hyatt Diamond Challenge might look like.

Then… the return…

Several blogs reported the return of the Hyatt Diamond Challenge in 2015 (One Mile at a Time, View from the Wing) but with slightly different rules, most importantly no Diamond status given at the start of the challenge.  I didn’t give it a ton of thought as I don’t have a lot of Hyatt stays upcoming (though I am staying at a Hyatt for the Family Travel for Real Life conference in March)

More recently, Angelina from Just Another Points Traveler posited that there is no 2015 Hyatt Diamond Challenge.  Apparently people commenting on some of the blog posts about it, as well as this thread on Flyertalk are suggesting that the “Elite Tier Offer” is not available to the general public.  View from the Wing recently had a followup post about the Hyatt Diamond Challenge 2015, where he confirmed with a Hyatt rep that there is no current publicly available Hyatt Diamond Challenge offer.  There have been reports of people with significant stays at other chains getting this offer added to their accounts, but by all reports, they are in the minority.

Anyone have any other data points to add about getting (or not getting) a Hyatt Diamond Challenge now in 2015?
