Details of the promotion include:

Registration is required by November 30, 2017
Valid for stays between September 12, 2017, and January 15, 2018
One free night at a Category 1-5 Marriott properties after two paid stays at any Marriott Rewards property worldwide
The free night will be valid for six months, and will be issued to your account within 3-5 days of the second qualifying stay,
An additional offer maybe unlocked and become available in your account after you complete the second qualified stay.
Maximum one free night award can be earned for this promotion per member.
Stays at ExecuStay and Marriott Executive Apartments are not eligible for this promotion

Stack with Amex offers to save at Marriott and Ritz-Carlton

If you have plans to stay at either Marriott or the Ritz-Carlton brand during the promotion period, be sure to take advantage of the above two Amex offers and save some additional money.

Conclusion

I live in San Francisco Bay Area where hotel nights are at least $250 a night. And there are no category 5 or below Marriott hotels around here either. So this promotion is not useful to me. I would be curious to know what “mystery” additional offer Marriott would be offering to members with two stays completed.
