Marriott has released their MegaBonus promotion for the last quarter of 2018, which a different twist on some of the last MegaBonus promotions. Rather than award you bonus points for stays or nights, Marriott has designed the Fall 2018 MegaBonus promotion to encourage you to try their 29 (yes….twenty-nine) brands in the combined Marriott/SPG portfolio.

Promotion Details

The Marriott Fall 2018 MegaBonus is valid for stays between September 26, 2018 and January 31, 2019. You have to register here by January 7, 2019.

During the promotion you can earn 2,000 bonus points per stay of two or more nights. Plus, starting with second brand you stay with, you can earn 1,000 points per brand. Looks like Marriott is encouraging you to try the Starwood brands if you’ve been a Marriott loyalist, and vice versa.

There doesn’t appear to be a cap on this promotion, so if you plan to be in a hotel a lot and can split things into 2-night stays, this is the equivalent of 1,000 bonus points per night, plus a bit more for the brand bonus. Not useless, but definitely not fantastic. So pretty much par for Marriott promotions.

As always, third-party bookings won’t qualify. And a ‘stay’ is defined as consecutive nights at the same hotel, regardless of the number of reservations.

But wait, there’s more

Marriott is also offering a game that you can play from October 4 through November 1, 2018 called “29 Ways to Stay”, referencing the 29 Marriott brands. Right now the site is just a countdown placeholder, but it will turn into a daily game you can play for points, or the grand prize of a 2-night stay at each of the 29 Marriott brands. There are some intermediate prizes as well.

Marriott’s stated odds are 1:2 for winning at least some points. I’d imagine this is going to be something like 500 points, if you do. I had one winning day during the Southwest daily game, so I may try my hand at this. Free points are free points.
