Right now, you can transfer Citi ThankYou points to Avianca LIfeMiles, and earn a 25% bonus!  If you want to take advantage of this offer, you better hurry – you must transfer by December 12th!

What’s the Deal?

  • Must transfer between 11/15/18 12 AM ET and 12/12/18 11:59 PM ET.
  • For the bonus LifeMiles offer, you will receive a 1.25 LifeMiles for each ThankYou Point transferred during the promotional period.  (Typically it’s a 1:1 ratio.)
  • You must have an eligible Avianca LifeMiles account and the first and last names on your ThankYou account and Avianca LifeMiles account must match.

Avianca LifeMiles

Avianca seems to be pursuing more bank partnerships and growing their LifeMiles program.  They just announced a new partnership with American Express’s Membership Rewards program.  Currently, the South American Star Alliance carrier partners with Citi and American Express, and will partner with Capital One once the program is finalized.

Due to Avianca’s lack of fuel surcharges and great partner award chart, they’re a great program to become familiar with.  Some of my favorite sweet spots on the Avianca chart include a one-way within the same US region (Avianca divides the continental United States into 3 zones) at only 7,500 LifeMiles, and a one-way within Hawaii for 6,000 LifeMiles.  Those Hawaii island-hopper flights can get expensive, so having some good points options is critical to make a great beachside vacation!

2018 has been the year of points transfers!  The big three currencies (Chase Ultimate Rewards, AmEx Membership Rewards, and Citi ThankYou Points).  Barclays released a new transfer program!  And it flopped…

But we are excited for Capital One’s new program.

Long story short, these transferable points are becoming more valuable than ever.  With increased partners, frequent bonuses, and their own favorable redemption rates for cheap cash fares, you’d be crazy not to have some in your stash.

While I wouldn’t always recommend transferring speculatively, this is a great opportunity to burn some ThankYou Points, and earn a few great, surcharge free Star Alliance flights!
