Yesterday, Fiji Air launched a sale to the Fijian city of Nadi, with flights below $400. Today they have expanded their discounts to other locations around the South Pacific. Vanuatu isn’t well-known to many Americans but its capital Port Vila is a popular tourist destination for South Pacific visitors, known for warm temperatures and crystal clear waters. Fiji has flights from Los Angeles & San Francisco starting at $512 round trip from L.A., and $587 from SFO. L.A. has far more availability, but both cities have more sale dates in the fall, with select days available in spring. These will sometimes reprice higher after you choose your dates, so you may have to check different purchase options to find the lowest prices, particularly Priceline.

Many dates include a day-long stopover in Fiji, allowing a chance to explore Nadi and it’s surroundings before continuing on to Port Vila. That turns this fare into a “two for one” trip.
Not to be left out, United (sometimes combined with Air Caraibes) is offering flights to Tahiti from San Francisco for as low as $631 round trip. Unlike Fiji Air’s Port Vila fares, these are available through June and then return in the fall. So if you only have free time in the summer, this is your best bet. Google Flights will potentially direct you to call United and Air Caraibes separately to book these; book with your favorite OTAs such as Orbitz to easily complete online, even if you search on Google Flights. There are also fantastic prices from Houston, Chicago, and Washington; however, these all seem to require 35-hour trips in at least one direction and the long layovers are in US cities, so I’d pass on those.

Both airlines are offering main cabin economy with these fares. That includes seat selection, carry-on, and a checked bag. Hopefully this is the start of a fare war, and we’ll see more bargains to these tropical locales in the days ahead, but great prices to these locations are never guaranteed.
