In early 2025, my wife and I visited my parents on the west side of Cleveland Ohio with three of my kids. Since my parents downsized out of the home I grew up in a few years ago, we have typically gotten a hotel when we go up to visit them. We’ve stayed at a few different hotels over the years, but this time we stayed at the Residence Inn Cleveland Avon at The Emerald Event Center, This Residence Inn Cleveland Avon at The Emerald Event Center review will give an idea of the different amenities and features of the hotel and hopefully help you decide if you want to stay here if you’re looking for a suburban Cleveland Ohio hotel.
Residence Inn Cleveland Avon location
The Residence Inn Cleveland Avon at The Emerald Event Center is located at 33040 Just Imagine Dr, Avon, OH 44011. This is just off of I-90 Exit 155 (Nagel Road), about 20 minutes west of Downtown Cleveland in the western suburbs (exurbs?) of Cleveland. It’s also about 20 minutes northwest of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, and directly next to the Cleveland Clinic Avon location. It’s fairly convenient to my parents’ house too, if that’s a factor in your decision :-).
This is a newer style Residence Inn location, where it is all one building (with interior doors) rather than a more “complex” style with separate buildings. There are five floors. As the full name of the hotel suggests, it’s also connected to the Emerald Event center.
Residence Inn Cleveland Avon cost
I checked the Marriott Bonvoy prices for the night I was looking at, and they were only asking 17,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, compared to $246 / night (before taxes) for even the 1 bedroom suite. This would be a cpp value of 1.44 cpp, meaning using points was an outstanding.

However, the value got even better because I emailed the hotel before our stay and asked if they would consider upgrading us to the 2 bedroom suite. I asked for a complimentary upgrade (of course) but also said that I would be willing to pay a copay to upgrade (since you can’t book the 2 bedroom suite with points). The hotel replied within a day and upgraded us to the 2 bedroom suite at no charge. That meant that our 34,000 Bonvoy points (for a 2 night stay) saved us about $680 (after taxes), yielding about 2 cents per point value from a Marriott Bonvoy point.

Residence Inn Cleveland Avon review – room
We were in a 2 bedroom suite as I mentioned. The Residence Inn Cleveland Avon actually has two different kinds of 2 bedroom suite with different bed configurations, and we were in the one that has a king bed in one bedroom and 2 queens in the other, with a sofa bed in the middle. We were on the 4th floor in Room 442. There is a full kitchen immediately when you walk in.
There is a living room directly ahead, with a pull out couch / sofa bed and a TV and desk.
To your left is the bedroom with 2 queens.
And to your right is the bedroom with 1 King.
Each room has its own in-suite bathroom. This is the bathroom on the 2 queen side.
And this is the bathroom on the 1 King side (it also had a toilet and a shower).
Residence Inn Cleveland Avon wifi and amenities
Wifi is complimentary in the lobby and in the guest rooms for Marriott members, though you can purchase “premium” wifi for $4.95 / per day, which I did not do. The Residence Inn Cleveland Avon wifi speed was decent and I had no issues using it, though I forgot to get a picture of the speed.
There isn’t a separate business center, however there is a small computer and printer area next to the front desk that is available for guests, if you need to print a boarding pass, directions or anything. If you look closely at the picture below, you can see the printer with a big sign that says
“NO TRASH PLEASE”
It is next to the exit from the breakfast area, and kind of looks like a trash can. I can definitely see them having problems with people dumping their breakfast plates on top of the printer without realizing it’s where the printer is 😀
This was in the elevator and has a bit of information about the hotel, showing some of the amenities of the hotel.
There is an indoor pool – however it was closed for renovations when I was there, so I was only able to get this somewhat blurry photo through the window.
There is an outdoor courtyard with a grill and a seating area. We were there in February, so it does not look very enticing, but I could imagine this would be a fun area to hang out in when it’s not quite as snowy!
There is a small fitness center with the basic equipment inside the main building. I used it on one of the mornings I was there, though I would have appreciated a recumbent bike.
There is onsite laundry, which was $2.50 for a load of washing and $2 for drying.
Residence Inn Cleveland Avon hotel review – parking
The Residence Inn Cleveland Avon parking is complimentary and spacious.
Residence Inn Cleveland Avon food
The Residence Inn Cleveland Avon is similar to that of many other Residence Inn hotels in the United States. There was a decent sized breakfast area located in the main building next to the reception area.
There were eggs, breakfast potatoes and sausage on the day that I was there, though I imagine it is switched up each day.
Also a waffle maker
There was also a variety of juices, cereal and muffins.
Along with fruit, muffins and bagels
Something I’m not sure I’ve ever seen at a hotel like this is that on one day, there was a tip jar for the breakfast attendant. I did not personally see anyone leave a tip, and I only saw a single $5 bill in it, which I assume was left by the attendant herself as a way to stimulate tipping. On the 2nd day I was there, there was a different attendant and no tip jar.
There is a small market near the lobby where you can buy various snacks
Of course the prices are outrageous.
Sadly, it appears that the “manager’s reception” aka “free hotel dinner” that used to be a standard at Residence Inns was killed by COVID and/or the economy.
The Bottom Line – Residence Inn Cleveland Avon hotel review
Overall this was a decent stay if you are looking for a cheap suburban Cleveland hotel. It was very easy to get to from the Interstate (or airport, or Downtown), and the price was outstanding on points as well. I thought my stay was good. The Residence Inn Cleveland Avon can definitely be a great option if you’re looking for a cheap westside Cleveland hotel.
