Southwest is back with a promo code for 20% off select flights
- This is valid for bookings made through Thursday, March 16, 2023
- This is valid for travel through Wednesday, May 24, 2023
- Use promotion code SAVE20NOW at the time of booking
Deals are available through its website. Given the flexibility that Southwest offers from a cancellation perspective, it makes sense to book a trip even if you’re not sure if you can take it in order to take advantage of 20% off. If things don’t improve from a travel standpoint, it will be easy to cancel.

If you don’t have Southwest points, you can still bank a travel credit for a future trip. As a reminder, if Southwest hosts a sale, make sure you check any existing flights you have already purchased. Southwest has no change fees, and if the sale price is lower, you will receive a credit for the difference usable for future Southwest fares. Also, if you change your mind after you buy one of these flights, remember that any fare marketed in the US is free to cancel within 24 hours.
You only have until this Thursday to take advantage of this promo and it needs to be for travel before May 24.
Good for existing flights too
Remember, because of Southwest’s cancellation and change policy, this promo would work even if you already have a Southwest flight booked, as long as it’s within the travel period. I had a flight booked for my son to come back from college at the end of April and was able to cancel it and rebook it and save over 3,000 Southwest points.
(SEE ALSO: Southwest just PAID me to take the same flight!)
Note that I was not able to go through the normal “change” process because it wouldn’t let me apply the promo code as part of this process. So I just canceled the first flight and rebooked with the promo code for 20% fewer points.
How to Book
- Visit the Southwest website to search for sample dates and destinations. Use promo code SAVE20NOW

Be careful if you’re thinking of canceling and rebooking an existing flight. The price of my flight is now 50% higher than when I booked so it doesn’t make sense for me.
Great call out – I double checked that the price was the same before I canceled, but I still was slightly nervous that the price would jump up as soon as I canceled. Thankfully it did not, at least in my case
Thanks for sharing. we had flights with connection booked for Easter weekend and was able to rebook on direct flights and save 3000+ points. Thanks again!
Awesome – glad it was able to work out for you!
