Where can you go for $39?
Not many places, to be honest, just Long Beach-Las Vegas, and Oakland-Reno/Tahoe. If you’re traveling on one of these route pairs, it could be a great opportunity to save some cash.
What about the New York area?
None of the flights out of the New York area had any of the super cheap flights. In fact, the cheapest is LaGuardia to Indianapolis starting as low as $72. Price aren’t super cheap, but could be competitive with the Big Three.
Conclusion
The other thing to do (as Dan has pointed out before) with these Southwest fare sales is to check your existing bookings. Because of Southwest’s amazing cancellation policy, there is no penalty for changing your flight if the price goes down.
(SEE ALSO: Southwest just PAID me to take the same flight!)

Someone should talk about the difference between booking with dollars and booking with points, when it comes to cancelling and rescheduling. My recollection is that dollars expire but points don’t.
Points are redeposited to your account, and the taxes paid are available as a travel credit for one year from original booking. When cancelling a cash booking, you also have one year from date of original booking to use the funds, which are issued as a travel credit. You need to have your original confirmation number to access the travel credit.
