Another day, another promotion.  JetBlue is currently offering up to 50% bonus TrueBlue points when you buy points to add to your account.  This TrueBlue promotion is valid through May 24th, so you have another week to take advantage of the offer!

The Fine Print

  • Buy 3,000 – 9,500 points = Get 20% more (no bonus on under 3,000 points)
  • Buy 10,000 – 19,500 points = Get 30% more
  • Buy 20,000 – 29,500 points = Get 40% more
  • Buy 30,000 – 60,000 points = Get 50% more
  • Sale Ends 5/24/2018

The 50% bonus sounds great, but let’s take a closer look.  Let’s say you buy 30,000 points, just enough to get that 50% bonus.  JetBlue is going to charge you $825 for the 45,000 points you’ll get, and tack on a $61.88 tax recovery fee.  So you’ll net 45,000 TrueBlue points for a cost of $886.88, or just over 1.97 cents per point.

This TrueBlue promotion is powered by Points.com, so you can’t even earn bonus points on your credit card.  I suppose you could make a case for using this to hit minimum spend on a new credit card, if you were sure you’d use the TrueBlue points.  Otherwise, it’s just another way to spend your paycheck.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend this deal.  A 1.97 cpp isn’t sweet enough to make me buy points.  My own JetBlue TrueBlue redemption values usually peg a single point around 1.2-1.7 cents.  If you’re in desperate need of points for something, this may be a good way to stock up, although I’d recommend holding out for the next Citi ThankYou transfer bonus (or AmEx Membership Rewards, but they’ll whack you with taxes).

We all love you JetBlue, I’m just not ready for that kind of commitment yet…
