European summer sale fares are hard to come by at the moment, but there’s currently deals to Milan, Italy in June. New York fares start at $447, and Miami from $540. American Airlines is offering direct sale prices from both cities, with OneWorld alliance partners British Airways and Iberia codesharing the flights. Delta and her SkyTeam partners are matching the New York price, though their Miami pricing is about $100 more, and lacks directs for inbound from Florida. Milan is an easy train ride from the rest of Italy, as well as France and Switzerland as well, meaning you have many options for spending your vacation time.

Delta award pricing for New York to Milan round trip

These basic economy fares include carry-on and meals. Buying up to main cabin is $120 more round trip, so fares including seats and checked bag start from $567. Delta has already introduced “dynamic pricing” for awards, and American is almost certainly planning to remove award charts soon. If you chose to use miles/points you would pay 60,000 AAdvantage miles on AA and $54 in fees, and Delta’s dynamic awards range from 57,000 – 102,000 SkyMiles for the New York route, with a minimum of $57 on top. Chase Sapphire Reserve holders, however can use Ultimate Rewards points for these flights through the travel portal and book regular cabin flights from 38,000 UR (and no fees of course), while earning miles with the respective programs. As dynamic award pricing becomes more prevalent, I will highlight potential bargains with transferable currencies from time to time.
