Finding great prices during high summer travel season can be tough. But sometimes, deals pop up with no warning. Right now, American and her Oneworld partner Iberia are offering great prices to the south of Spain in June and July. This might be the best bargain for Mediterranean beaches this year.
Currently, deals are available from east coast cities. Prices are available from to the following cities
- Barcelona: Boston from $253; New York from $404
- Malaga: Boston from $368; New York from $374; Miami from $442
- Alicante: Miami from $442 ($274 in mid/late August)
- Valencia: Boston from $400
Additionally, Boston has deals to several other cities such as Madrid ($435), Bilboa ($401), and Santiago de Compostela ($375). Chicago even has a deal to Alicante for $302.
These are basic economy prices, including a carry-on and personal item as well as meals. Main cabin buy-up is $135-$140 round trip, which adds a checked bag and limited seat selection. Even with the added expense, most prices are below $550 in high season, which is a very good deal for families.
These prices are a bit tricky to book. First, they are generally only available directly through the airlines or by booking with Google. The best prices are not available from Orbitz, Expedia, or other OTAs.
Second, these are available on limited dates, though they can be found on several days in each month. Additionally, similar and lower prices for these routes can be found in mid-August, though school schedules may preclude families’ ability to take advantage of them.
Third, some routes include longer returns. Be aware of this when planning your trip to ensure you can (or want) to take the extra time coming home.
Given the limited nature of the deal, these prices may not last long. Each of the beach cities is a great destination for family vacation travel, so book now if you want to enjoy the Mediterranean coast this summer.
