Okay maybe it’s just one man’s opinion, but we had a great time in Athens Greece and one of the reasons we had such a blast was that I felt like we had the best Airbnb in Athens Greece.  Your mileage may vary, but I wanted to give a brief review as well as share some of my experiences there.  I was actually alerted to this Airbnb by someone at one of our Cincinnati miles and points meetups who had stayed their previously, so I am passing on the love.

Athens Airbnb location

What makes the best location for an Athens Airbnb will depend on what exactly you’re looking for.  I was in Athens with my son and we’re not big partiers or drinkers anyway, so we were not looking for necessarily the “hippest” or “coolest” area.

The location of this Athens Airbnb was near the Acropolis and near transit, which are two of the things I’m looking for.  We walked about 20 minutes to the Parthenon (uphill to the Parthenon which makes sense since it’s on pretty much the highest point of Athens). It’s also about 5 minutes to the nearest subway station, though we rented a car so we didn’t use it.

There is a supermarket literally across the street, as well as several small coffee shops and restaurants within a 5 minute walk.

Room and amenities at the best Airbnb in Athens

This Airbnb in Athens Greece is a 1 bedroom apartment with a kitchen, bathroom and a living room with a balcony. You could sleep 3 comfortably and 4 semi-comfortably.

a room with a television and a table a kitchen with wooden utensils and a stove

It is up on the 5th floor of an apartment building.  There is an elevator, which feels like it’s 500 years old and is literally the smallest elevator I’ve ever been in (this is the entirety of the elevator)

But it got the job done just fine. There is a small washing machine in the apartment, which was slow but worked fine, and a clothesline out back where we hung our clothes out to dry.

Our host was great – he wasn’t able to meet us on arrival because we arrived about 4 hours late due to our plane being delayed. But he was super responsive to messages and arranged for a friend to meet us there.  Our host was also very responsive to questions or problems that we had, including self-inflicted ones

There was a kitchen though we did not use it very much.  Our host did say that we could use anything that was in the fridge, and we did make ourselves up some toast one morning but that was about it.  For our other meals we ate at some of the many shops and restaurants nearby, or got food from the supermarket across the street.

Woah – the best view from an Airbnb in Athens Greece

Oh did I mention the balcony?  What really sold me on this place was the view from the balcony – you can easily see the Acropolis from across the way.  Here are a few pictures

And here’s one with our family travel mascot Mario (before he got stolen out of our car)

Zoomed in they get a bit blurry because I didn’t have a tripod but I’m including them just to show you how close it really was

And of course I enjoyed the meta-ness of playing Civilization on my computer and building the Parthenon in view of the Parthenon

And for what price?

I think the amazing part of our entire trip to Greece was how cheap everything was. This Airbnb was no exception – we stayed 4 nights here for a total of $138.03 all in, or an average of $34.51 / night.  That did include a $40 coupon for signing up with Airbnb as a new user (which you can get too!).

We also got 800 Delta Skymiles as well

Compare that to using points at the Hilton Athens, which we looked at staying at, but it was 50,000 Hilton points (or over 200 Euros), so I’m quite pleased with our decision to stay at the best Airbnb in Athens.

How to book the best Airbnb in Athens

I’ve not had great luck linking to individual rooms / apartments on Airbnb – it always seems that my links end up not working.  But if you’re looking for the best Airbnb in Athens – the one that I stayed at is currently advertised as “Athens Acropolis Panoramic Apt 60 sqm”, so you should be able to search for it there.  You can also try this link.
