Fares to Tokyo have dropped by $200-$400 round trip from multiple US cities, with plenty of availability during spring and autumn months. Especially exciting: fares are valid during Japan’s “cherry blossom season” of late March through April! This is a steal compared to the typical $1000+ prices some of these cities see during this time. Flights are mostly available through Delta and American; United is a latecomer to this one, with a few dates for sale. Departure cities include:
- Los Angeles from $525
- San Francisco from $670
- Portland from $534
- Seattle from $656
- New York from $630
- Chicago from $596
All prices can be booked directly through the airlines or with trusted OTAs. Round trip fares include checked bags and carry-on, so feel free to bring back souvenirs from your sightseeing trip to one of the world’s most beautiful cities! But don’t wait too long: the best prices will disappear without notice.

I wonder where in Japan is the best to see the cherry blossoms. If Tokyo, where in that city? Or is Osaka, Kobe, or Nagoya better, all of which have US flights?
You’re right that there are several choice in travel destination. I’ve done cherry blossom season in Tokyo and Kyoto, and both were astounding; I’d imagine any destination would be fantastic.
Cherry blossom season actually “moves” in the calendar with the climate. So different cities = different times. Tokyo is a great option because it’s perfect for cherry blossoms, plus there are both other attractions as well as easy transportation to all other locations in Japan.
