A month or so ago, Hilton rolled out an offer where you could get 1000 Hilton HHonors points for changing your password. Apparently Hilton was concerned about the recent data breaches and (finally?) wanted to upgrade from a PIN-based password into a “real” password.
Unfortunately, Hilton’s IT department must have hit some glitches, because on the same day, before I could even blog about it, they pulled the promotion. Reading the repartee on the Flyertalk thread is somewhat amusing, I have to say 😀
I learned this evening from Miles to Memories that we are back on now. His contact at Hilton said:
HHonors members will need to update their passwords by April 1. As of this date, members will be required to create a new password upon login as Hilton will no longer accept PINs. Since we know this can be a hassle for members, and to encourage adoption of this new login procedure, Hilton is offering an incentive of 1,000 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points if members update their passwords by March 25, 2015.
So there you go – should take only a few minutes to do and worth 1000 points. My wife and I both changed our passwords this evening. It can also keep your points alive if that’s an issue for you.
I know that some people already changed their password, so it’s my understanding that anyone that changes their password between now and March 25th (regardless of if they already changed it) will get the bonus points
