One of my miles and points sayings is that it’s important to get your miles and points from several sources.  While most of my miles come from credit card signup bonuses, another potentially lucrative source of miles is making your online purchases through shopping portals

All of the shopping portal sites are run by the same company (Cartera), so it’s not really a huge surprise when many of them run similar promotions at the same time.  Last year, there were FOUR very similar “back to school” promotions being run at different shopping portals, and it looks like this year is more of the same.  It started with just United, but over the past few days, we’ve had 2 more airlines announce their back to school shopping portal promotions.

Alaska Airlines shopping portal bonus

Alaska Airlines has a portal bonus where you can earn up to 1500 bonus miles.  It runs through August 14th at 11:59:59 pm ET

  • 400 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $200
  • 1,500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $750

Southwest Airlines shopping portal bonus

The Southwest portal offer is slightly more lucrative – their portal bonus lets you earn up to 2500 bonus miles.  It runs through August 15th at 11:59:59 pm ET

  • 750 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $500
  • 2,500 bonus miles for qualifying purchases of at least $1500

United shopping portal bonus

I also wrote earlier this week about the United offer, but I am including it here for completeness – you can get up to 2000 United miles

If you’ve got a few purchases to make online, this could be a great way to get some extra bang for your buck!
