Over the last few years banks have been cracking down on credit card churners with the addition of restrictive language, clawbacks, and arbitrary time restrictions (I’m looking at you, 5/24). American Express is one of the toughest, allowing cardholders to receive a bonus for a particular card once per lifetime, no matter how many times you open or close the card. Today the past has returned in the form of a new offer from American Express’s no-fee Hilton without the addition of the lifetime language.

If you haven’t had the card yet, you can get 100,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months through this link (may pay me a commission), which is of course a better deal (This would be more, wouldn’t it), but only if you haven’t had the no-fee Hilton card before
Thoughts
I’ve already hit my maximum for American Express credit cards, otherwise I’d be all over this. There are a couple of points to note here: American Express has been known to claw back bonuses on targeted offers exploited by the public (though never, as far as I know, on a co-brand card, only for Membership Rewards), and this offer does appear to be targeted due to the language in its terms and conditions.
That being said, this is technically a publicly available offer, so YMMV. I’m interested to see if they’re honoring the bonus on this. Comments on DoC show people with existing cards being approved, so we’ll see!

Yes – I also have a link for 100,000 Hilton points but it definitely DOES have that lifetime language (which I am sure yours does as well)

I guess basically to the same card. Other words if you have the card and have gotten the bonus can you just get it again? But it sounds like you’d have to reapply
Yeah – you can’t really do that. You used to be able to do it with some issuers, but very few allow anything like this now. American Express specifically has a rule that you can only get the bonus on a card once per lifetime. That’s specifically why this post was written because this particular link does NOT have that language, meaning someone that doesn’t have the card (but had it previously) can again earn the bonus
Well I decided to give it a try and see what happens. I currently have this card (this was my very FIRST card – where I discovered travel hacking in 2015!). I was instantly approved. I used a browser that I had not previously used to login to my Amex acct. I did enter my Hilton member number. I’ll be sure to come back here and comment to say if I receive the bonus or not.
