I have written several times about the IHG Accelerate promotion, which is a promotion that IHG runs every quarter. Each quarter, every IHG member gets a targeted offer giving out points for stays. I wrote about the Q4 2017 offers when they came out back in August, but it appears my requirements have changed?
This was the offer that I originally got (as mentioned in the original post)
My wife had the exact same offer, and I realized that I could get 6,500 bonus points with one stay in September, but I figured it wasn’t really worth it for 4 more nights to get the remaining bonus nights. If I had upcoming stays where I needed a hotel that would be one thing but I don’t think mattress running this makes sense. If I needed more IHG points (which I don’t), I could buy 35,000 points whenever I wanted for 0.7 cents a point or cheaper! ($245) which would likely be cheaper than 4 mattress runs.
But then… my offers changed?
When I was planning my recent tip to Texas and Louisiana, I needed 3 hotel nights. The IHG Point Breaks list came out a few days before my trip, so I looked through some of the hotels on that list, but also figured I’d check my IHG Accelerate Offers page again.
And…. now I have new offers?
Gone is the September Stay bonus but these offers are much better! I figured I could complete those with 2 stays – one Points and Cash and one cash. For my 3 nights I ended up staying
- 5000 points for a IHG Point Breaks stay at the Candlewood Suites Longview
- $94 all-in at the Staybridge Suites Covington Louisiana
- 10000 points plus $40 (to buy 5000 points for a Points and Cash stay) at the Holiday Inn Express Elgin, Texas
If I am reading things correctly, I should net 39,000 points for those stays (plus the points from the actual stay and the bonus points from paying for the Staybridge Suites stay with my IHG card. Seemed like a pretty much no-brainer given that I needed hotel stays anyways so it wasn’t even a mattress run
Anyways, I was wondering if I was the only one and if anyone else’s Accelerate offers had changed?

They will always have a “stay once in September” bonus. If there’s no hotel stay in September then they usually give you more points for staying in another month. So you and I win either way.
Just one thing on mine changed. One task had been added after my start (and maybe after my completion). It was something like 3,000 for two more stays (maybe nights).
It’s now gone.
The others (all completed) stayed the same. I guess even IHG wouldn’t change completed tasks.

I had “Stay once in October 3000” AND “Stay 2 nights in October 3000” — an easy 6000 points I thought I scored. Well, I got the 3000 for a stay, I got two nights toward a 4 night Accelerate challenge, but I didn’t get the 3000 points for 2 nights in October.
The one stay challenge is still visible — checked, completed, done. The 2 stay challenge is gone. Called IHG. Their support people can’t see it now either. Of course, it’s November. So I am left trying to persuade member support that I completed an invisible challenge.
Moral to the story: take screen shots — monthly.
I think you’d get 30k points, but not the 10k task (unless you will have 4 other qualifying nights- the Points Break redemption and Points & Cash won’t count towards that one). Still a nice offer.
Mine changed as well. The terms of one of my categories requires staying at 2 Intercontinentals. The terms are so horribly ambiguous that I can’t tell if they need to be different Intercontinentals. What do you think? I live in LA and there are two here, but the new one in Downtown is so much cooler.
I completed my stay once on September and I think mine stayed the same, my deals at not as good though I have a complete 6 out of 7 offers for 10000 points.
I had an October Bonus of 3,000 points for 2 stays that I fulfilled but have not received points yet. Now it does not show on my list. I thought maybe because it is now November but my Sept bonus for 1 stay still shows.
I had the October bonus, too. 3000 points for two stays on the IHG Mastercard. I also fulfilled and have not received the points. It has disappeared from the list. I will wait another week then call.
I had the deal for two October stays with MC. It disappeared, I called today. They said it was a system glitch and manually added 3,000 points.,
