In addition to paid travel and credit card sign-up bonuses, another great way to earn points is through shopping portals. For those of you who may not know, shopping portals give you additional points for buying products through them. We buy a lot of things online these days, why not be rewarded for it?

Right now, the United MileagePlus shopping portal is offering a tiered bonus depending on how much you spend. This offer is good from today until August 18th!
United Airlines Back to School Bonus
United is offering a bonus through their shopping portal
- Get 500 bonus miles when you spend $150
- 1500 bonus miles when you spend $350
- 3000 bonus miles when you spend $600
- Offer expires August 18th
Other airlines
If last year is any indication, many of the other airlines will also offer back to school shopping portal bonuses. So you’ll want to take a look at how much money you’re likely to spend through these portals, and decide which type of miles / points you are most interested in. Almost all of the shopping portals are run by the same company (Cartera), so usually they have the same basic framework, though sometimes the actual spending and bonus thresholds are slightly different.
