I’ve received two emails in the past week from Chase – both are good news! A lot of card issuers are expanding or shifting benefits to keep folks happy right now. Some of these are just to help their customers, while other benefits really can’t be used in a low or no-travel environment.
Search your email for “3x total points on grocery store purchases” and hopefully you’ve got these offers too! They don’t seem to be targeted, but who knows..
Triple Points on Groceries from Chase
Right now, I have the offer on three cards:
- Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus
- Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier
- Chase IHG Mastercard
For both the IHG card and the Southwest cards, this promotion is only active from May 1, 2020 through June 30, 2020. (Email came a little late, huh Chase?) You can also earn the extra points on grocery deliveries, not just shopping in person. Nice tough by Chase, with everyone using Shipt and other services to avoid the grocery store right now.
The IHG card already earns double points on groceries. Relative to the Southwest cards, it’s definitely a lower earning potential. The bonus points are limited to $1,500 in spend on each card. I will definitely use this offer for the Southwest cards, as I don’t have access to Ultimate Rewards. Since I can’t transfer AmEx or Citi points to Southwest, I like to have some Rapid Rewards in the bank.
No activation is required, so swipe away! (But remember, Chase technically has 6-8 weeks to give you the bonus points.)

Cam, i have a SW priority cc which got no love from chase for a retention offer… last day to get a full AF refund is this coming June 10; already spent $1.5k at a grocer for the bonus RR pts in May; the acct stmt date is the 3rd of each mo, hope the RR pts will get posted after june 3; if not yet & i close the acct on the 10th, do u think the pts will be forfeited or could still be awarded? Thx
Well, points usually post pretty quickly from these kinds of promos (in my experience). So there’s a chance that they’ll post before you close the card. Since the promotion is linked to the card promotion, I’d be surprised if they posted after closure of the card.
