Recently I returned from a week or so in Oregon and California. I had made the trip out there to drop off my son at his church mission. He and I stayed the first night at the Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport.

Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport location and pricing

The Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport is located at 7025 NE Alderwood Road, Portland, Oregon 97218. It’s directly off of NE 82nd Avenue, about 1.5 miles from PDX. It is one of the closest PDX airport hotels that is not actually on the airport property itself. There is a complimentary airport shuttle (though see below for COVID-related shuttle adjustments). We had a rental car, and there is plenty of free parking onsite.

Rates vary but most nights I checked had a price of between $90 and $120 before tax. The Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport is a Category 3 Radisson Rewards hotel, which means it costs 28,000 Radisson Rewards points. That’s not a fantastic use of Radisson points, but I had been holding on to my Radisson points for so long that I wasn’t sure WHAT would be a good use of Radisson points, so I booked our stay on points. It also reset the expiration of my points, which had been coming up.

COVID-19 at the Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport

I visited the Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport in September 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and so conditions were different than if you visited previously or are planning a visit after the pandemic dies down.

There were a few changes. The indoor pool was closed, though the fitness center was open by appointment. There were no complimentary chocolate chip cookies in the lobby either, which was expected though sad.

At the front desk, there were two signs announcing some of the other changes that they had implemented due to COVID-19. First, the airport shuttle times and capacity were decreased.

Then the breakfast was also changed. Instead of a full, hot, complimentary breakfast, they had a Grab & Go breakfast. I’ll get into a bit more detail on what that was like later on in the review.

In the room, the TV remote was wrapped in a plastic bag (I suppose indicating that it had been sanitized / replaced) and two hand sanitizer wipes were provided.

We had booked a room with 2 double beds, which were comfortable. 3 (rather wimpy) pillows is not enough in my opinion for 2 people if you’re sharing beds, but since we were both solo, it ended up being fine. There is a work desk as well as a refrigerator and microwave. Electrical and USB outlets were plentiful.

The bathroom was separated – the actual room itself was small and just had the toilet and shower / tub.

The sinks were outside the bathroom itself, which is a configuration that I prefer.

Country Inn and Suites PDX Airport food

As I mentioned earlier, the Country Inn and Suites PDX Airport, like most hotels, is not offering a traditional breakfast buffet during COVID-19. However, their breakfast offering was better than many of the other hotels I encountered during my road trip. They had one worker behind the counter, and you could ask for whatever you wanted from their supply of yogurt, juice and pre-packaged pastries. They were also offering one hot item (scrambled eggs on the day we were there). We eschewed the eggs since we were meeting my brother for breakfast and instead just grabbed some of the pastries to use as road trip snacks.

The Country Inn and Suites PDX Airport also has food available for purchase off of the lobby if you prefer.

Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport amenities

As I mentioned earlier, the Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport does have an indoor pool that was closed due to COVID-19 and a fitness center, which was open but had to be reserved.

They also have a business center, which is located on the 2nd floor directly overlooking the lobby. It was in a somewhat strange location and I had to ask to find it.

They have paid laundry facilities as well.

Overall, this was a great stay for a great price at the Country Inn and Suites Portland Airport. I would have no problem staying here again.
