New American Airlines holiday shopping portal bonus
I was doing some gift card purchases this afternoon on the American Airlines shopping portal and noticed that there appears to be a new holiday shopping portal bonus
Details are
- Spend $100, get 300 bonus miles
- Spend $300, get 1200 bonus miles
It’s for purchases made from 12/6 through 12/13 (Sunday). I got this popup when just going to visit a store’s detail page on the American shopping portal page (specifically ebay)
Portal bonuses at other sites?
Since all of these shopping portal sites are run by the same company (called Cartera), I thought I would go to the other airlines’ sites, and see if there were any similar shopping portal bonuses. I did not find any on Delta, Southwest or Alaska, but did find (almost) the same deal at the United shopping portal

It’s for purchases made from 12/8 (Tuesday) through 12/15 (Tuesday) so it hasn’t technically started yet

Anyone know if this would work for purchasing gift cards online at Staples?
I believe that gift cards do NOT track through most portals. I tried that with the last set of portal bonuses but nothing tracked. I actually need to write a followup
How about an article to list any portals that DO credit points for gift card purchases. Then again that might be a short article.
Check Frequent Miler’s “Laboratory” section for this information. You can search by portal or merchant. There are many portal / merchant combinations that have produced positive mileage or cashback results for gift card purchases.
The terms for the AAdvantage offer say it’s only for select members. This offer isn’t on my shopping portal for AA which ticks me off a bit because I qualified for the bonus by purchasing something this week! 😛
