As the mega-hit Game of Thrones winds down its final season on HBO, I thought I’d look at fares for some of the major filming locations for the show. If you’re a super fan (guilty!) the idea of taking a tour through some of the iconic landscapes and architecture of the show as part of a larger trip is very appealing. So I’ve put together a list of some great deals for flights from the U.S. to destinations with noted tours available, in major locations.

First up is Dubrovnik, Croatia, better known to watchers as King’s Landing. While there is extensive use of CGI to create the look of the capitol of Westeros, there are still numerous recognizable locations around the city. Plus, there are tours available for in-depth exploration of the Sept, the “Walk of Shame”, and other locales. If GoT isn’t your thing, there are still lots of things to do around the area, and the walled city is famous for its striking views and architecture. Fall fares are currently discounted from many US cities, with deals including:

  • New York from $403
  • Boston from $559
  • Chicago from  $567
  • Miami  from $574
  • Seattle from $603
  • San Francisco from $614
  • Los Angeles from $672

These are all Norwegian basic economy fares, which includes a carry-on but no seat selection or meals. Buying up to main cabin seems to start around $65 each way, meaning the lowest fares can still be had for less than $600, including a checked bag. These may book with the cheapest price directly with the airline, though various online travel agencies have similar prices. A note: Croatia is very sensitive about the effects of tourism, on their country. We should always tread lightly whenever we travel, but Dubrovnik might be a special case. That said, the country welcomes tourists, especially Game of Thrones fans, and a fall trip to the coast of the Adriatic Sea is a great vacation no matter what you watch on television.
