KEY LINK: Chase IHG Reward Club Premier card

Today, I received an e-mail from IHG letting me know that as an IHG Rewards Club member, I could save 20% on the cash portion of a Points + Cash redemption. If you are an IHG member, you should have received an e-mail as well, but if not you can access the deal here.  Similar deals come out periodically, but this is one of the better cash discounts I’ve seen.

How Do I Book?

Here’s how it works:

  1. Use the search tool here to find your Reward Night destination
  2. Choose your hotel
  3. Pick a Points & Cash option on the Select a Rate page
  4. Get your Reward Nights at a great value using Points & Cash.  That’s it!  It’s pretty simple.

Sale Rules

  • IHG® Rewards Club members must be logged in to receive 20% savings.
  • Must book by 7/22/2019
  • Stay dates include 7/15/2019 – 9/16/2019
  • 20% discount is offered at time of booking and only pertains to the cash cost of bookings.
  • Bookings for The Venetian® and The Palazzo® hotels are excluded from discounts.
  • This offer is subject to the general IHG® Rewards Club membership Terms and Conditions
  • Consult Rewards Program Rules and Regulations and product brochure, or your Cardmember Agreement, as applicable, for details.

What Card Should I Use With This Offer?

If you still hold the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card by Chase (I held tight even after the anniversary free night devaluation), you’ll also get a 10% point rebate on the points portion of your stay as well.  This can help you stretch your points even further which is what I am always trying to do.  For instance, a room that might cost 20,000 points plus $100 per night would actually cost 18,000 points plus $80 per night.  Those points and cash can add up if your stay is multiple nights.  While the Rewards Club Select card is discontinued, if you don’t currently have an IHG card or need to top up your point balance, the Chase IHG Premier Card is offering an 80,000 IHG points welcome bonus after $2,000 in spend.  Cam talked about the other benefits (including up to 25x points per dollar) per of the card in detail here.

Conclusion

Being able to save 20% on the cash portion of a Points + Cash redemption is nice, particularly if you were planning travel anyways.  It also comes in handy if you are short the points needed to book a room with just points.  The deal is even better if you can take advantage of the 10% rebate to the point portion of the reservation with the old Chase IHG Rewards Club Select card.  Good luck and let us know if you are able to take advantage of this offer!
