My wife just received an offer from American Express detailing how she can earn up to 20,000 bonus Hilton Honors points for spending over the next couple months. The end date is December 25, 2018, so they are obviously targeting your Christmas shopping. Given that the Hilton Honors Ascend card only earns 3x Hilton points per dollar, American Express definitely needs to do something to entice us to use it. This offer definitely does!

The offer is targeted to my wife’s Hilton Honors Ascend card, which she has hardly used this past year. In short, you can earn 10,000 miles for every $1,000 of spending you put on the card between when you enroll in the offer and December 25, 2018. You can do this up to twice, for a total of 20,000 bonus points.
Besides the 20,000 bonus points, the spend will earn 3x Hilton Honors points normally (6x if at a grocery store), for a total of 26,000 points if you put exactly $2,000 of spend on the card. I value 26,000 Hilton points at $130, so this is an excellent 6.5% return!

Enroll and earn 10,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after each $1,000 you spend in eligible purchases on your Hilton Honors American Express Card (“Purchase Requirement”) starting from the time you complete enrollment through December 25th, 2018 (“Purchase Period”), up to a maximum of 20,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points. Enrollment period ends on December 25th, 2018. If you reach the Purchase Requirement, the Hilton Honors Bonus Points will be credited to your Hilton Honors account in the 8 week period following December 1st, 2018. I was targeted for spend $2,000, earn 20,000 bonus Hilton points, up to two times. I recently earned the free weeknight reward by spending $15,000 and was planning on cutting back using this card, but this offer definitely has me rethinking that.
We just did this! But I do t read 6 points for groceries, I read 5. Doing the math, and since we do velocity banking, we will easily earn a free weekend at a nice resort each year. The bonus points were just, well… bonus.
I received two offers. On my Ascend card I would earn 20,000 points for $2,000 spend. I can do this 2x. This is “better” then what your wife was offered. Then on my basic (no fee) card I can earn 10,000 points for $1,000 spend, and can do this 2x.
So a total of 60,000 bonus points for $6,000 spend. That is a lot of spend in two months (given that I already have three new cards with min spend due in Jan). I think I might pay estimated taxes for the first time on plastic to max it out.
My wife and mother have both cards and did not get any offers.

The ascend card gets 6x at restaurants, gas stations and grocery stores. Quite possible to get 16,000 points with $1000 spend or 32000 points with $2000 spend. I received this offer and will max it out.

I received an offer of 10,000 points after spending $200 at grocery stores by 11/30/2018 on my no fee card. As a family with teenage boys, I can spend that faster than I can type this comment!
