UPDATE: As of ~10:35a.m. Eastern time 5/10, this appears dead (for now). – see this page for the current top credit card offers

Late last night, the whole blogosphere went nuts about a new Amex Platinum 100K offer.  This is just about the highest public offer I’ve seen for the Amex Platinum card (I think I may have seen a few higher targeted offers).

The original source that I saw was over on Reddit but it was also picked up by View from the WingOne Mile at a TimeThe Points GuyFrequent Miler, Miles to Memories, Rapid Travel Chai, Travel Sisters oh and just about everyone else 🙂

How to get the Amex Platinum 100k offer

The current best offer for the Amex Platinum 100k offer is located here (this is not a referral link and does not pay me a commission)

As of this morning when I posted this, it was still open and accepting new applicants.  If/when the web site goes down, the offer code is POID BVGO:0009, which might work if you try to apply over the phone.

Most people were getting hung up on the website after the authorized user step (unlike the Ameriprise Amex Platinum card, there’s a $175 fee for authorized users on this version of the Amex Platinum card).  When I applied, the website hung up after that step, but I did immediately get an email stating that I was approved.

I should note that this card is DIFFERENT than the American Express Mercedes Benz Platinum card that was recently in the news for a 75K offer.  So you are still eligible to get this Amex Platinum if you applied for the Amex Mercedes Benz Platinum.  Note that you will NOT get the 100,000 bonus if you have had the regular Amex Platinum card before.

Is the Amex Platinum 100k offer worth it?

Well, only you can answer for yourself if the Amex Platinum 100K offer is worth it.  When I first started out travel hacking, I thought it was silly to spend $450 on an annual fee (not waived).  And I do agree that it may not be for everyone.  Personally, I will say that it has been worth it for us.  Here are a few of the benefits that I’ve used

If you are really sensitive about the annual fee, you can even use 45,000 of your newly earned Membership Rewards to pay the $450 annual fee (though I would personally not recommend doing that)
