News broke early this morning (Doctor of Credit) about a new offer on the American Express Platinum BUSINESS card. This is separate from the short-lived 100,000 Membership Reward offer on the personal Amex Platinum a few months ago. That one lasted only a few hours before it was pulled. This one at least appears to be a direct public offer and is a different offer, so if you got the Personal Platinum (or the Mercedes-Benz Platinum or the Ameriprise Platinum), this is a separate offer
Amex Platinum Business 100K offer
The direct offer to the Amex site is here (I do NOT receive a commission if you’re approved through this link).
You get 50,000 Membership Rewards after you spend $5000 in the first 3 months of having the card, and another 50,000 points if you spend an additional $10,000 (so $15,000 total). So the spending requirements are pretty high. We’ve seen targeted offers on the Amex Business Platinum as high as 150,000 points.
One thing to be careful about is using manufactured spending (specifically buying prepaid gift cards) to meet your minimum spending targets – Amex recently has been clawing back bonuses for people that have met minimum spends that way
American Express Platinum benefits
Here are some of the benefits of the American Express Platinum card and how to best use them. When I first started out travel hacking, I thought it was silly to spend $450 on an annual fee (not waived). And I do agree that it may not be for everyone. Personally, I will say that it has been worth it for us. Here are a few of the benefits that I’ve used
- $200 Airline credit each CALENDAR year (so you can use it twice for the first annual fee). In my experience, airline gift cards have worked to trigger this credit
- Priority Pass lounge access (SEE: How to access Priority Pass lounges with no card)
- Hilton Gold and SPG Gold
- Amex Platinum roadside assistance
- Amex Centurion Lounge access (SEE: AmEx Centurion Lounge Las Vegas Airport review)
- Free Global Entry credit (includes pre-check) – $100 value
- Free Boingo Wifi access
Other top credit card offers
There are a couple of other credit card offers out there that are temporarily increased levels (SEE: 6 credit cards with temporarily increased signup bonuses)
See more details about this card here. I do receive a commission if you apply for a card through that link

Could you explain how buying an airline gift card worked to credit the bonus? I tried bying an AA gift card when my airline was AA but I didn’t get anything back. Thanks.
There are data points out there that talk about what will or will not count towards the bonus. Check Flyertalk
Has anyone else had luck getting Amex to match the 100K offer if you accepted a lesser offer recently. I called yesterday and they opened a ticket for me since I opened this card recently for 75000 points for 15,000 spend.
